TRAVEL NEWS –Delta CEO, Ed Bastian, announced this week it’s transforming its popular Fly Delta app into a digital concierge. The new app tech will anticipate customer needs and offer service options with Delta Partners to create a seamless travel experience.

“Customers tell us they want Fly Delta to become their ‘home base’ for managing their travel day,” said Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines. “That’s why we’re evolving the app to become the ultimate travel companion for all points of your journey – with an eye on expanding the convenience and value of using miles as a form of payment for services with Delta and partners, throughout.”

One new service is the expansion of Delta’s partnership with Lyft. Delta Customers will soon have the ability to link their Skymiles account with Lyft. This will enable members to accrue miles on Lyft rides, plus the option to use Skymiles for payment.

As part of their vision for making travel more personal, new virtual queuing is set to launch later this month. The Fly Delta app will soon notify users when their seat – not just their flight – is boarding. This new option is part of a suite of new app upgrades like providing TSA wait times in select markets, international auto-check-in, plus the ability to pre-select meals, all from the app.

“Instead of checking one app for traffic, another for airport parking and a third for TSA wait times, Delta is building the capability to simplify travel by helping you manage everything from ridesharing and in-flight entertainment to bag delivery and hotels,” Bastian said. “We’re excited to start exploring these possibilities with an innovative leader like Lyft, with whom we share a passion for making the customer travel experience even more rewarding.”

The airline is also working to integrate other options such as:

  • Faster proactive travel notifications powered by its new AI-driven machine-learning platform.
  • Access to in-flight entertainment across the day of travel that you can continue on the plane to achieve a more integrated travel experience.

This is all part of Delta’s vision to provide a seamless travel experience through innovative tech and strategic partnerships.
