TRAVEL NEWS — Marriott Bonvoy members may want to book reward travel reservations sooner rather than later. Earlier this week Marriott announced its category changes for 2020, and according to many experts, it looks extensive.
When compared to years past (where changes averaged around 10-15%) this year’s change is major. As of March 4, 2020, 29% of participating properties in the Marriott Bonvoy program will see a change. And most of those changes are an increase in category.
For example, every Hawaii Marriott Brand hotel (that we found) will see a step up in category.
The charts below can give you an idea about how the increase will impact point redemption rates:

As noted by One Mile at a Time, with the new Peak and Off Peak redemption rates combined with added inventory controls for reward rooms, this 2020 category change is a net negative for most Bonvoy members.
The somewhat good news is you can still book the current category redemption rate from now until March 3, 2020.
For those Hawaii bound travelers, better grab your room now rather than later.
